“Mommy, what does Daddy look like again?” your beautiful, five-year old asked from her position on the floor. (h/c) strands falling across her lovely face.

“Why do you ask, sweetheart?” you replied, cutting potatoes on a wooden cutting board. You glanced up, admiring how much she looked like her father. You used your knife to slide the chopped vegetables into a pot to cook later before leaning on the worktop.

“I’m making a picture!” (c/n) chimed, then frowned “I want to give it to Daddy when he comes home today, but I always forget what he looks like.”

Laughing you wiped your hands on your white apron, making you way towards (c/n) and sitting with her on the brown floor. You flicked a few crayons away and placed your little girl onto your lap. She giggled and clutched your apron.

“Your Daddy is the most handsome man I have ever had the pleasure to call my husband. Many people were frightened of him a little because it looked as though he was always giving scary looks to everyone -”

“But Daddy is nice, isn’t he?” She looked up at you with admiration in her steel grey eyes.

“Yes, love. He is very nice. His eyes were a pretty grey like yours and to me it never looked it he was glaring. Daddy also is quite short, just a little taller than me! People thought it was the reason he was so angry!” you grinned at your child’s obvious delight and continued “Daddy also has silky hair that is as black as the night sky, which looks very nice especially with his pale skin. Very much like yours (c/n).”

“Daddy sounds amazing!” She smiled, scrambling out of you lap. (c/n) grabbed a few crayons scattered around the floor and went back to her drawing.

You smiled and got up, dusting your long (f/c) skirts. Glancing around the room, you picked up a few of (c/n)’s toys, then placed them neatly inside a metal box. Tucking the metal box somewhere hidden in the corner of the room you decided to open a the curtains. Before you even touched the curtains, you realised there was noise seeping into the room from outside. Gently pulling aside the curtains you saw the well known heroes who risked their lives for the safety of your people.

You gasped, Levi… he must have come with the others!

Turning on your heel, you ran and picked up your daughter. Swinging her around for a few moments you almost yelled, “Daddy’s home (c/n)!”

Your daughter screamed with happiness before almost dragging to the door. You swung it open, all of the noise flooding into your house.

Cheers and words of encouragement were being shouted from the crowds that had accumulated outside.

“(y/n)! God damn it, (y/n)! Over here lady!” you heard a familiar voice over the roars of the crowd. Frantically looking around you tried to place the voice with a face. There it is! It was your brother, (b/n).

“(b/n)! what are you doing here?”

“To make sure you are okay, stupid. Look how many people are here, you and my little (c/n) could get crushed by the masses!”

You held your daughter’s hand a little more tightly, whilst looking straight into your brother’s eyes, challenging him to say anything more about your parenting. He sighed in response.

“Mommy, can I go with uncle (b/n)? He’s very tall so I will be able to see very high! And if I see Daddy I will come home straight away with him!” (c/n) smiled brightly.

“Here, give her to me, I’ll keep her safe.” he smiled, reaching for (c/n). You reluctantly let your daughter go, making sure to tell your brother you wanted her back before sunset.

Hundreds of people were pushing and shoving each other, trying to catch a glimpse of a an important family member. Your head was starting to hurt due to the sheer volume of evryone and everything outside, however, you remained resiliant. You stood there for a few minutes, standing on your toes, attempting to find your husband amongst the throngs of people. You exhaled deeply; wondered when and where you had started to hold it. Shaking your head slightly you opted for the safer option: Waiting for Levi and your child at home.

Apologizing every time you would brush against a person and almost tripping over a few times, you finally made it home. You Shut the door and closed your eyes, appreciating the peace that came with your comfortable home. Slowly, you slid down the door until you were sitting on the floor and hummed to yourself.

“Okay, I’m fine, (c/n) is with (b/n) and Levi is…” You suddenly felt sick.

What if he hadn’t made it home this time?

What if your daughter would never see her amazing father? Especially now, since memories have started to stick with her.

No, no, no.

Rubbing your temples, you squeezed your eyes shut. They were so tight it started to hurt. Calming yourself you looked around the room, (c/n)’s toys were scattering on the floor.

One, two, three, four… pick the toys up and calm down (y/n) they’re fine, you’re fine, it’s all okay.

Walking slowly toward the corner of the room you gently pulled out the wooden box. You allowed your fingers to glide across the smooth, dark wood and smiled at all of the engraved pictures on the surface. (c/n) had been doodling on scraps of paper and had insisted you or Levi make a little storage unit to allow her creations to be carved into it. You couldn’t help but chuckle at the memory. You lifted the lid off of the box and carefully - making sure to not break or crush anything - you placed the toys one by one into the box. You replaced the lid.

Then something caught your attention. Something small and colourful. It was the drawing your delicate (c/n) had made. Reaching out, your grasped the corner of the paper, rugging it from the pile of crayons it was almost hidden under. (c/n) did a wonderful job drawing her father, despite the fact she can’t remember what he looks like.

Well, as wonderful as a child aged five could do. She got Levi’s black hair and his deep, grey eyes right. You smoothed out the edges of the paper and smiled softly.

You saw movement from the corner of your eye; a flash of black hair. Arms were around you and someone was nuzzling their face in the crook of your neck. You felt warm breath tickling your skin and you giggled. you turned in his arms and faced your lover. Levi’s eyes were closed and he was smiling.

“Hello stranger,” you kissed the tip of his nose “Welcome home, Levi.”

“You have no idea how much I have missed you (y/n).” He opened his eyes, and gazed into your (e/c) ones.  His expression all too familiar.

He leaned forward. Tentatively, like you would disappear if his movements were too sudden, he kissed you. You slid your hands up his chest and into his soft hair, kissing him back. The kiss was sweet, but was cut short by a knock on the door. The heavy wooden door swung open, (c/n) in the doorway, her eyes opened wide. (b/n) was standing close behind. Light flooded the room, giving everything the appearance of having a yellow glow.

“Daddy?!” she squealed. Levi couldn’t get to her quick enough. He was up on his feet and had (c/n) in his arms in a matter of moments. (b/n) winked at you, then looked back at Levi and (c/n). He closed the door quietly, giving you your privacy before making his way back to his own family.

“God, (c/n) you’ve grown so much!” Levi looked in your direction and bit his lower lip “Has it really been that long?”

You hummed in response, shuffling along the floor to sit with you husband and child. Levi wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you closer.

“Daddy’s home! And he looks just like you said Mommy!” (c/n) was so happy it seemed as though she was going to burst with joy.

“Been telling stories now have you (y/n)?” Levi kissed your forehead.

“Are you going to leave again, Daddy?” (c/n) pouted at the thought of being separated from her father once more.

“No, i’m staying. For good.” Levi chuckled.

And you knew. You knew he was safe. You knew he was here. You knew he was home. He was was there, for you and your child. And he would remain here until the end of time.
